Concert - What is our life?

Saturday 13th September 2025

Chelys Consort of Viols and Essex Voices

Chelys Consort of Viols and Essex Voices joined forces to present a programme of music by Orlando Gibbons in his 400th anniversary year. The concert explored some of the madrigals from The First Set of Madrigals and Motets published in 1612, interspersed with some of the instrumental music: Fantasias for 3, 4 and 6 viols as well as some of the In nomine settings. The Cries of London and Long Live Fair Oriana by Orlando's brother Ellis, rounded off the evening in a lighter fashion. The programme can be read here.

"....a wonderful and educational concert."

"The singing and the music were beautiful, really lovely. There was appealing contrast and humour too..."

"Inspiring!"
